OFFICERS

Deborah has been deeply engaged in the world of snow sports and community leadership for over two decades. Her journey began in 1997 as a dedicated member of the NBS, where her passion for skiing first took root. It was during her time in Chicago as a member of the Chicago Ski Twisters Ski Club that Deborah honed her skills in downhill skiing, laying the foundation for her future contributions to

the skiing community.


Upon relocating to Atlanta, Georgia, Deborah seamlessly integrated into The Southern Snow Seekers Ski Club, where her impact has been profound and multifaceted. Her commitment to the club is evident through her extensive service roles, including financial secretary, international & domestic trip leader, activities leader, advisory board member, and notably, two terms as President. Currently serving as Vice President, Deborah continues to steer the club with vision and dedication.


In addition to her local leadership, Deborah's influence extends regionally as Director of the Eastern Region since May 2022, where she continues to foster connections and promote the joy of skiing across a broader geographic area.


Deborah's journey is a testament to her enduring dedication to the skiing community, blending her love for the sport with a steadfast commitment to leadership and service.

Deborah Thornton

Vice President / The Southern Snow Seekers Ski Club

Director of the Eastern Region

Joined the National Brotherhood of Snowsports in the late nineties. Currently reside as President of SnoBurners Ski & Sports. Associate Director of the Eastern Region. I have served for the past twenty years as the Summit trip leader. And continue to collaborate with Chairperson Angela Foster on the Eastern Region Summerfest. Committees served:  NBS Elections, and NBS 50th Anniversary Gala.

 

In the world outside of the NBS, I am serving as a first term Third Vice President for the Foundling Chapter of the New York Coalition of One Hundred Black Women. And treasurer of Resurrection Alumni association.   


In closing, I strongly support our NBS mission statement “To identify, develop and support athletes of color who will win international and Olympic winter sports competitions representing the Unted States and to increase participation in winter sports.
